On the 10th of September 2024, exactly a year ago today, local legend Maurie Hyde passed away.
He was a father figure for many young men in the Hawkesbury, and cared deeply about everyone he met. With decades of volunteering at the Windsor Wolves, including Club President, coach and commentator, Maurie touched many lives, including our Managing Director Peter, who called him his best friend.
Before passing, Peter asked Moz what legacy he wanted to leave.
Maurie was a footy man through and through, and knew that social sports were important to keep kids busy, learn to make friends and work together, connect them to a community, and give them somewhere to have fun and be kids. Just as he had spent his life making sure local kids got the support they needed, so he wanted to continue providing support.
Maurie never wanted adult issues such as finances to be barriers for kids who wanted to play. So he did something about it and initiated ‘Mozza’s Way,’ an organisation that provides the means to “get kids on the footy ground” and enjoy the game.
At Maurie’s farewell dinner, organised by the man himself, Peter revealed Eather Group’s newest legacy truck…MAURI1, named after his mate. Peter promised that a portion of the profit earned by MAURI1 would be donated to Mozza’s Way, to ensure his wishes for the kids continues to be achieved.
MAURI1 has been gracing the streets of Greater Sydney for the last 12 months, and now the truck has headed South to work on the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project in Cooma. We couldn’t be prouder, and view this as a legacy project being completed by a legacy truck.
As MAURI1’s wheels keep turning, families across our community have relief feeling held back by their circumstances, and we are proud to remember the Legend himself.
What an honour is it to be able to call Maurie Hyde our friend.
