Thinking back on the thrill of bringing culture to an International stage, with the ICF Slalom World Championships at Penrith’s very own White Water Stadium, with the world’s best flying in to take part.
Eather Group, Muru Mittigar Ltd, and the Kelly Family with their cultural brothers, ran the “Cultural Heritage Hub” activation, showcasing the rich history of canoeing in Australia and allowing all our international visitors to interact with Indigenous culture.
The Kelly family spent Monday tirelessly preparing and creating a full-size traditional canoe, and made 40 small-scale canoes, one for each participating nation.
Muru Mittigar shared knowledge of bush-tucker in our country, with visitors having the opportunity to take home some plants of their own.
And we spent the week inviting all guests to contribute to our painting, which accompanied the traditional canoe and recognises our international community coming together for the sport.
Some honoured guests including The Hon. Chris Minns MP, NSW Premier & Helen Brownlee AM and the Fox family; were invited to leave a handprint, symbolising their efforts to bring the event to life.
Thank you to Paddle Australia and the incredible team that brought the week to life – you can see just how much fun we all had!
